Description
Limefrost Spiral, the fourth star system in Descent II, consists of mines located on/in cold planetoids on the outer fringes of a (our?) solar system. Being far from the sun, the mines are barren and frigid... brr.
This is the second of the two pieces I'm doing on the idea of a lime-frosted spiral. This one's a bit more devious from the idea than the last, but oh well.
Background: I'm doing a string of D2-inspired pieces 'cause I've been playing it again due to A600's wonderful port of the game to the Xbox. Check it out over at Xbox-Scene . . . He's also done Duke Nukem 3D and some other game I hadn't really heard of. Definitely worth checking out if you have a modded Xbox, and a definite example of what great things can come out of a game company making its games open-source. Also, if you even remotely enjoyed the Descent game series, I strongly recommend you go read one of the books. They're badass.
Update: 2006/09/07
Re-rendered at 4000 quality rather than the previous version's 500.
Changed to widescreen format. 4:3 users can crop to a width of 1600.
Also tweaked the flame itself quite a bit. It looks much cooler now.
Render time on a 2.16 GHz Intel Centrino Duo: 1h 53m
